Frequently asked questions about SwiftUI desktop apps.

Can't I just build a Mac app myself with AI?

For a prototype: yes. For a native macOS app with a menu bar, multi-window support and deep Apple integration, delivered cleanly signed and notarized: rarely. AI generates Swift code, but not the architecture, Mac interaction patterns and the many details that decide success. We are AI-first ourselves and build every SwiftUI desktop app AI-assisted – faster, but with the experience of running our own apps in the stores.

Is SwiftUI mature enough for Mac apps?

Yes – macOS has been a target platform for SwiftUI from the start, and the framework has matured considerably over the years. For very specific Mac capabilities we selectively reach for AppKit, which interoperates seamlessly with SwiftUI. Whether your case needs such additions is something we check up front – not in the middle of the project.

Can iOS and Mac apps share the same code?

Yes – business logic, data model and large parts of the SwiftUI interface are shared across iPhone, iPad and Mac. Only the layouts and individual controls adapt to each device. That makes the Mac a next step, not a second project.

What is the difference between Mac Catalyst and a native macOS target?

Mac Catalyst brings an existing iPad app to the Mac with modest effort – fast, but with iPad heritage in the interaction. A native macOS target uses SwiftUI directly for the Mac and feels fully like a real Mac app. We honestly recommend the path that fits your ambition and budget.

Can SwiftUI also deliver a Windows version?

No. SwiftUI is Apple's framework and runs exclusively on Apple platforms. If you need Windows – on its own or in addition to the Mac – SwiftUI is the wrong choice. In that case we honestly recommend Flutter for Windows and macOS from one codebase. We are technology-agnostic and pick the right tool per project.

How is a Mac app distributed?

Via the Mac App Store or as a signed, Apple-notarized DMG for direct download. In companies, centralized rollout via MDM is added. Which path fits depends on your audience, update strategy and internal requirements – we settle it early.

How much does a SwiftUI desktop app cost?

If the Mac app is added as an extension of an existing SwiftUI app, the additional effort is moderate. As a standalone project the feature scope sets the range – after the first call you get a transparent, traceable estimate.

Does the app run on Intel Macs and Apple Silicon?

Yes. SwiftUI produces universal apps that run natively on Apple Silicon (M-series chips) and on Intel Macs. We agree the minimum macOS versions we support based on your user base.

Does the app work offline?

Yes, if the concept provides for it: local data storage on the Mac and optional synchronization via iCloud/CloudKit once the connection returns. We plan offline operation from the start instead of retrofitting it.
